Why this matters here
A lot of Barbadian commerce is booked well in advance and from abroad. Villa rentals, tours, dive operators, restaurants with limited covers and event venues all take money from someone sitting in London or Toronto weeks or months before they set foot on the island.
That pattern makes pre-authorization genuinely useful rather than a technical curiosity. You can hold an amount on the card at the time of booking without charging it, then capture the full sum, capture part of it, or void the hold entirely once you have confirmed availability. All of it runs from the WooCommerce order screen, so your staff never need a separate bank portal login.
Because the Barbados dollar is pegged to the US dollar at two to one, pricing in either currency is predictable. If Scotiabank has enabled USD on your merchant account, you can quote overseas guests in dollars they recognise while still settling locally.
Cancellations are a fact of life in hospitality. Once the Scotiabank API is active on your account, full and partial refunds run directly from the order screen in WooCommerce.
