Which plugin do you need?

It depends on which payment gateway your merchant account runs on. Your bank usually recommends one when you apply, so the bank you choose is the best clue. These are the acquiring banks operating in Trinidad and Tobago and the gateways they typically recommend.

Plugin available now

Scotiabank

Scotiabank merchants use the eCom+ gateway, and our plugin for it is available today with modal checkout and 3D Secure 2.0. Ask Scotiabank to enable API access for refunds and captures, and tokenization with recurring payments if you want saved cards or subscriptions.

Why this matters here

The USD question every TT merchant runs into.

Foreign exchange access is a live constraint for businesses in Trinidad and Tobago. If you sell to customers abroad, or to local customers who hold USD cards, being able to accept and hold US dollars directly changes what your business can do rather than being a nice-to-have feature.

Because our plugins talk straight to your bank’s gateway, your currency configuration is whatever your merchant account is set up for. If your bank has enabled USD on the account, you can run TTD and USD on the same WooCommerce store with a currency switcher plugin. There is no aggregator in between converting at their own rate and holding your funds for a fortnight.

This is also our home market. WP Companion Technology Solutions Limited is registered in Trinidad and Tobago, and every support ticket is answered from here. When something needs escalating to the bank, we already know who to call.

Local agency partners

If you would rather not run the integration yourself, four of our preferred partners are based in Trinidad and have taken merchants from sandbox to live on the region’s bank gateways.

How it works

From application to first live payment.

01

Apply to your bank for online card acceptance

Ask the bank that holds your business account for e-commerce card acceptance, and confirm which gateway the account runs on. The banks section above tells you what each answer means for your store. If you are not sure where to start, tell us and we will point you at the right people. This step is usually the longest part of the process, so start it early.

02

Test free in sandbox

Install our free sandbox build and run test cards through your checkout using the sandbox credentials your bank provides. Every feature is unlocked in sandbox, so you can prove the whole flow, including a 3D Secure challenge and the modal checkout, before you pay us anything.

03

Go live in TTD, USD, or both

Swap in your live credentials, place a small real transaction, and confirm settlement with your bank. Most merchants are live within a day of receiving credentials.

Thinking about using PayPal instead?

PayPal is not banned in Trinidad and Tobago, but it works differently here than it does in the United States, and it is a poor fit as the main checkout for a store selling in TTD. We go through what actually happens when you try to receive money, and what to use instead.
