Accepting more than one currency
How currency is decided, how to set up a switcher, and the mismatch that silently costs you sales.
Fix the currency mismatch between your WooCommerce store and your Scotiabank merchant account.
This error appears when the currency set on your WooCommerce store does not match the currency configured on your Scotiabank merchant account. The order status changes from Pending payment to Failed, and the customer sees a generic decline message.
The bank’s sandbox platform accepts USD only. Set your WooCommerce store currency to USD for the duration of your testing. You can switch it back before going live.
Go to WooCommerce, then Settings, then General and set Currency to United States dollar.
Your store currency must match a currency enabled on your Scotiabank merchant account. If the bank has enabled only your local currency, the store must be set to that currency. If Scotiabank has enabled both your local currency and USD on the account, either will work, and you can run both using a currency switcher plugin.
If you are not certain which currencies are active on your account, your Scotiabank merchant services representative can confirm. It is worth asking at application time rather than after, since adding a currency later is a separate request.
