Once Scotiabank has enabled API access on your account, refunds run from the WooCommerce order screen without logging into the bank terminal.
WooCommerce offers two buttons and they do very different things. The Scotiabank button sends the refund to the bank and returns the money. The manual refund button only marks the order as refunded in your records and moves no money at all.
Clicking manual refund by mistake is a genuinely common error. The order looks correct, the customer never receives anything, and the discrepancy usually surfaces as a complaint days later. Read the button before you click it.
Refund part of an order by entering an amount lower than the total, or by refunding specific line items. You can issue several partial refunds against one order up to the original amount.
Nothing immediately. The credit reaches their account within about 5 to 14 days depending on their issuing bank.
Check the order notes for the error returned by the bank. The most common cause is API access not being enabled on your merchant account, which is a bank-side permission rather than anything in the plugin.
